Violence Against Women - What is Violence?
Violence can come in the form of physical threats or harm, mental or emotional abuse such as yelling and belittling or isolating you from friends and family.
Another form of abuse is sexual whether it is unwanted sexual talk, sexual assault or rape.
Violence can happen to anyone by anyone.
Remember, violence is not your fault and you have the right and ability to create a life free from violence.
How common is violence against women in our homes and in our communities?
1 in 10 women is regularly battered by her spouse.
A women is raped every 17 minutes in Canada.
1 out of 2 girls and 1 out of 4 boys will be sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18.
Note– more recent studies suggest that every second person has experienced some form of abuse.
